The short version

Sugargoo prices freight on the parcel's chargeable weight: the larger of its real weight and its volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ the line's divisor, often 6,000). Sugargoo's own examples imply roughly $9.31/kg for 3 kg of clothing to the UK and $18.39/kg to the US. Work out the freight on a Sugargoo parcel

Take the per-kg rate and divisor from the line's page in Sugargoo's freight estimate; they differ by line and change over time. The default box and weight are the worked example below. Some lines charge real weight only — set the box to zero for those.

Worked example: why box size can cost more than weight

A hoodie (0.90 kg), a tee (0.25 kg) and a cap (0.15 kg) weigh 1.30 kg together. Packed loosely in a 40×30×15 cm box, the volumetric weight is 3.00 kg at ÷6,000 — so you pay for 3.00 kg, not 1.30. Vacuum-packed into 35×25×10 cm, the volumetric weight falls to 1.46 kg.

That's why box removal and vacuum packing (¥20 at Sugargoo) are worth asking about for bulky clothing and shoes: here they save $13.86 on a small parcel. For dense, heavy items the real weight already wins and packing changes little.

Verdict: Bulky and light? Pay for vacuum packing. Small and heavy? Don't bother — real weight decides the price.

What Sugargoo's own examples say about rates

Sugargoo publishes worked examples rather than a flat rate card. Two are useful benchmarks: 3 kg of clothing to the UK on its Royal Mail (PH) line at about $27.94, and 3 kg of clothing to California on the US Duty-Free Clothes (PH) line at $55.18. Divided out, that's roughly $9.31 and $18.39 per kg. Use them as a sanity check on what you type into the calculator, not as prices — lines get repriced, and first-weight fees make small parcels dearer per kg.

Line choice matters as much as weight. Clothing-only lines are cheaper but refuse shoes and electronics; tax-included lines cost more but collect duty up front, so nothing is due at the door. The shipping page lists Sugargoo's lines by country.

Add duty and VAT for your country

Once you know the freight, add the goods value and pick where the parcel is going. Use your own currency for both boxes.

An estimate, not a customs ruling. The EU examples use standard VAT rates; product-specific duty above each threshold, reduced rates and carrier handling fees are left out. With the default figures and Germany selected, duty is €6.00, VAT €29.64 and the landed total €185.64.

In the EU, duty depends on how many kinds of goods are in the box, not how many items, so a parcel of five tees and a cap pays for two kinds. In the UK, keeping the goods under £135 keeps customs duty at zero. US duty rates on Chinese goods have changed several times since 2025, which is why the calculator flags US duty rather than guessing it — Sugargoo's duty-free clothing line exists for exactly that reason. Whatever the country, declare values honestly; under-declaring can get a parcel held or fined.
