How Temu's one-free-return rule works

Temu's headline is 90 days. The detail that catches people out is per order: the first return is free, every further return from the same order costs $7.99. Once you start a return you have 14 days to send it.

The trick follows from the rule: bundle doubtful items into one return from the same order. Sugargoo works the other way round — you judge each item on QC photos in the warehouse and request returns before paying international postage, within five days of arrival.

Temu's 2025 switch to local sellers, and US duty

When the US closed its $800 duty-free allowance for Chinese goods in May 2025, Temu's model of small parcels sent straight from China stopped working for American buyers. Temu moved US orders to locally based sellers, and by July 2025 the same programme covered the UK, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Australia. Its scale made that significant: Wikipedia notes its global app passed Amazon's in monthly active users by December 2024.

For a Sugargoo buyer in the US, the contrast is that Sugargoo still ships from China, so US duty applies — which is why its US Duty-Free Clothes line (13–17 days, up to 5 kg, clothing only) matters. Temu has also faced EU scrutiny: the European Commission opened a Digital Services Act investigation in October 2024 and, in July 2025, preliminarily found it breaching EU rules on illegal products.

Using Temu and Sugargoo together

If Temu is right for part of your list, a few habits help. Group items you're unsure about into one order so a single free return covers them. Choose a refund to your original payment method if you might not shop there again. Check return eligibility before buying clothing, since worn or washed items can't go back. And look at the seller on each listing — since the local-seller switch, near-identical items can come from different sellers with different delivery times.

For the rest of the list, the Sugargoo spreadsheet and its under-$20 sheet are the closest thing to Temu prices on the agent side — with the difference that you see the item before it ships.

Why Temu finds lists age badly

A Temu list goes stale in a way a Sugargoo spreadsheet doesn't. Temu listings are frequently duplicated by several sellers, prices move with promotions, and since the local-seller switch the same product can appear under different listings in different countries. A link a friend in the UK shares may show a different price, or nothing at all, in the US.

Weidian listings are steadier. A shop keeps one item ID for a product across seasons, often adding colourways to it, and the link works from anywhere because Sugargoo buys it inside China.
